Bormio with children: what to do with the family

The activities not to be missed during a winter holiday in the upper Valtellina

 

In winter, Bormio is a tourist destination not to be missed: the pearl of Valtellina, the Magnifica Terra is not only one of the most beautiful and renowned ski resorts in the Alps, but a true combination of nature, sport and wellness. Also for those travelling with children.

Skiing with the whole family in and around Bormio

In Bormio the snow arrives early and already in December the slopes of the ski area are ready for the descents of enthusiasts. Skiing in Bormio is a unique experience, suitable for both expert skiers and those putting on their skis for the first time: the Bormio ski area includes 50 km of ski slopes, 15 ski lifts, a snowpark and a family park on the snow, with the possibility of skiing at 3000 metres above sea level and trying out the legendary Stelvio slope where the Alpine Ski World Cup trials are held. For children and young people who want to learn to ski in Bormio there are dedicated schools and courses, with expert ski instructors who introduce the little ones to this magnificent sport.

And near Bormio there are many other ski slopes to try, such as those in the Santa Caterina Valfurva ski area and the Oga-San Colombano ski area.

Bormio is a renowned alpine thermal centre, with waters that flow from the bowels of the mountain at temperatures between 36 and 40° C and have many beneficial properties. In addition to the refined Bagni Nuovi and Bagni Vecchi wellness centres for lovers of wellness for body and soul, there is also a thermal pool for families in the centre of Bormio: Bormio Terme is a thermal park suitable for everyone, which includes play areas and pools for children, water slides and fun for the little ones, as well as whirlpools, outdoor pools and a large wellness area with saunas and Turkish baths for adults, so as to meet everyone’s needs in the name of thermal relaxation.

 

Snowshoeing near Bormio

Around Bormio there are plenty of opportunities to explore the wonderful natural scenery of the Valtellina. Inside the Stelvio National Park, in the enchanting Valfurva or in the nearby Valdidentro you can find snowshoeing routes of all lengths, difficulties and types: walking with snowshoes on your feet on snowy slopes, in magical forests or discovering unspoilt valleys is an experience that puts you in direct contact with nature and with the most fascinating side of the mountains. Shopping and food and wine in the centre of Bormio

A winter holiday or skiing week in Valtellina is also made up of relaxation, entertainment and good food: walking through the streets of Bormio, from the historic Via Roma to Piazza del Kuerc, with the whole family gives you the opportunity to shop in the shops in the centre, admire the charm of the village and enjoy typical Valtellina dishes, starting with the unmissable pizzoccheri and the delicious bresaola.

For those who want to try a different kind of snow experience with their children during their winter holiday in Bormio, there is the Husky Village in Arnoga: one of the largest and most important sleddog  centres in the Alps, where around 60 Alaskan Husky sled dogs live all year round. In the Husky Village, you can become a musher for a day and try your hand at driving a husky sled along a 5 km snowy trail through a beautiful forest.

Adults and children over 13 years of age drive the sleds using voice commands as instructed by the instructors, while children under 13 years of age ride safely aboard the musher’s sleds: a truly unforgettable experience to share with the whole family.
