What to do in Livigno in summer

Unmissable active experiences during a mountain vacation

Livigno in summer becomes one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Alps for a mountain vacation in Italy. The reason why is quickly said: just as in winter the valley is a huge snowy expanse ideal for skiing, bobbing and practicing practically all snow sports and activities, similarly in the summer months this corner of Valtellina is colored green and nature offers a priceless setting for those who want to relax, work out or have fun outdoors. In addition, there are many experiences to try in Livigno at least once in a lifetime: here are the most unmissable.

Throwing yourself into the trees along the suspended trails in the woods

Livigno’s forests are a typical high-mountain landscape, but it takes very little to feel like you’re in the jungle: jumping from tree to tree, walking suspended meters above the ground, jumping into the void hanging from a liana… these and other challenges await the most adventurous explorers in Livigno’s adventure parks, where fun is combined with adrenaline. The Larix Park offers 9 suspended courses on centuries-old larches, at different heights (up to a maximum of 17 meters) and with different levels of difficulty, to be accomplished by overcoming Tibetan bridges, catwalks, ropes, pulleys and logs, obviously in maximum safety and with suspended courses suitable even for children. Instead, in Val delle Mine, which enters the area of Livigno called the Tresenda, there is the Aventurando trail that includes several activities in the heart of mountain nature between rock and river: climbing with via ferrata suitable for everyone, zip-line suspended above a canyon, rope bridge flying over the stream, ford and skill trails.

Driving a team of sled dogs along a mountain trail

Valdidentro, a few kilometers from Livigno on the road to Bormio, is home to one of the most exciting activities in Valtellina and Lombardy: sleddog, which is the chance to be pulled by a team of sled dogs like the famous Alaskan mushers. The husky adventure is available year-round: in winter aboard classic wooden sleds, in spring and summer driving karts pulled by the Nordic breed dogs. You start at the Husky Village in Arnoga, a facility with few equals in the world for hosting and training sled dogs, and take a 5-kilometer loop trail in the first section of the Arnoga-Cancano Decauville (find out more about this trail) driving a kart pulled by a team of Alaskan huskies via voice commands or riding comfortably in the vehicle driven by an instructor (mandatory for children under 13), all in a breathtaking setting amid panoramic views of the Valtellina and forests where nature reigns unspoiled. At the end, once back at the starting point, participants can pet and cuddle the huskies that pulled them and receive a dedicated photo shoot immortalising the experience.

Ride your bike down the mountain slope

The huge bike area of Livigno, with its more than 3000 GPS-mapped kilometres for bikes, MTBs and e-bikes, offers one of the most important bike parks in Italy: the Mottolino Fun Mountain Bikepark. Here, downhill and enduro enthusiasts, but also beginners in these disciplines, can find a true paradise: the mountain slopes are a springboard for adrenaline-fuelled descents and more technical routes, trails for experienced and less experienced bikers, forest trails and areas dedicated to jumps and slopestyle. From the 2,400-metre summit of the mountain, a swooping descent down to the village through woods and technical passages on the saddle of your own bike, to then take advantage of the Mottolino cableway to climb back up and launch yourself back down into the valley. Pure adrenaline, to be experienced on two wheels.
